Questions about lessons

Is the time shown in my area? Or is it Japan time?

All times are shown in Japan time (UTC+9).

Make sure to check the time difference from the time in your area before you book your lesson.

Also, if you live in an area with daylight saving time, be aware of the beginning and end of daylight saving time.

How long is one lesson?

One lesson lasts 25 minutes.

What kind of instructors do you have?

All instructors are native Japanese speakers.

4 types of instructors are available, and you can choose the one that best fits your needs.

・Senior Tutor          Experienced tutors

・Junior Teacher      Teachers who are educated to teach Japanese language education

・Senior Teacher      Professional teachers with extensive experience in Japanese language education

You can also choose a different instructor each time.

Up to what time can I reserve or cancel a lesson?

You may reserve or cancel a lesson up to 24 hours prior to the lesson start time.

If you cancel within 24 hours of the lesson start time, your points will NOT be refunded.

To cancel a lesson, please go to "My Page" and cancel your lesson.
The cancellation procedure will notify the instructor of your cancellation.

Will I receive a reminder email before the lesson?

Yes. It will be sent after 9:00 p.m. Japan time on the day before the lesson.
Note that it may not be the day before, depending on your location.

Do the instructors speak any language other than Japanese?

Yes, most of our instructors speak foreign languages.

You can choose the instructor that best fits your needs from the instructor profiles.

Can I take multiple lessons in a row?

Yes, basically you can.

* Instructors are always required to have a 5-minute break or class preparation time every 30 minutes.
For example, if you continue three lessons, the lesson will end after 75 minutes.
* Some instructors may not accept consecutive lessons. Please check the instructor's profile in advance.

When can I book a lesson?

You can book a lesson 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Please check the calendar of the instructor of your choice to confirm available lesson dates and times before booking a lesson.

If the instructor's calendar is not vacant, you will not be able to make a reservation for the date and time.

I don't live in Japan, where can I take lessons?

Lessons are offered over the Internet, so you can participate in lessons from anywhere as long as you have an Internet/video chat environment.

What do I need for lessons?

You will need an internet connection, a PC or the like, a video chat application, and a headset.

Each instructor uses different applications, so please check the instructor profile.

* You can basically use it free of charge, but students who use a paid plan are responsible for their own fees.

* In addition, you can decide on textbooks and other teaching materials after consulting with the instructor.

What happens if I am late or absent?

The instructor stands by for 10 minutes after the lesson start time, so you can take the lesson if you are present during that time.
However, you may not delay the lesson's end time.
 For example, if you are 5 minutes late for the lesson from 9:00 to 9:25: the lesson starts at 9:05 / the lesson ends at 9:25.

In case of absence, no points will be returned.
However, if you cancel the lesson by yourself through My Page at least 24 hours before the lesson start time, your points will be returned.

Please cancel your lesson from My Page as soon as possible, as the instructor is waiting for you, preparing for the lesson.

Can children take lessons?

Children can take lessons from 6 years old. 17 years old and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Some instructors specialize in teaching children, while others specialize in teaching adults, so please be sure to check the instructor profile before booking.

Can I have lessons etc. with instructors outside of LinguaAlis?

No. You cannot take lessons or meet with instructors outside of LinguaAlis.

Questions about membership and booking

Is there a fee to join?

No, there is no fee to join or register.

Can I take a break from membership or the like?

Yes, you can easily suspend, resume, or cancel your membership at any time.

To suspend, resume, or cancel your subscription, please do so in person at My Page.
Unless you take the necessary steps to suspend or cancel, your subscription will continue to be billed and paid for each month.

If you suspend or cancel your subscription at least two days prior to the start of each month's subscription start date, you can do so from that month.
For example, if your subscription renews on the 8th of each month, you can stop your subscription starting on February 8 if you complete the procedure by February 6.

*Points cannot be carried over after the start of suspension or withdrawal, even if they are still within the expiration date.

If you wish to resume your subscription, you can easily resume it yourself at any time from My Page.
You will be able to resume from the time you purchase a new plan or points.

* In case of *withdrawal*, your registered information will be deleted and you will not be able to log in to My Page.
If you plan to resume lessons, we recommend that you suspend your membership.

Can non-members use the service?

No, they cannot. All of our services are membership-only and can only be used by registered members.
Also, the member's ID can be used only by the member.

Questions about fees and points

What currency is used for payment?

We accept payment in Japanese yen.
Credit card transaction fees are to be borne by the customer.

How do I pay the class fee?

We accept the following credit cards for payment:
PAY.JP is a secure credit card payment method, and we do not have your credit card information.

What fee plans are available?

You can choose the purchase option that suits you from the following two types of plans:

- Monthly subscription plan
We offer 6 plans from A to F, depending on the number of lessons per month and the instructor's lesson points.
Additional points can be charged if you run out of points.
Additional points are valid for 2 months from the date of purchase.
*Special bonus points* will be credited to your account.
*No bonus points are awarded for Plan A.

- One-time purchase for the points you need

You can purchase as many points as you need.
The minimum purchase amount is 10 points.
* No bonus points are available.

When do points expire?

For subscriptions, points are valid for 2 months from the plan start date.
For one-time point purchases, points are valid for two months from the date of purchase.

*Purchased points will no longer be available for use after the date of withdrawal or suspension, even if they are within the validity period.

What happens to fractions of points?

Unfortunately, fractions of points cannot be used alone.

By purchasing additional points, you can combine the fractional points with the additional points to book a lesson.
